The tree is decorated, the lights are up and the turkey is cooking nicely. And these wonderful weeks are, without doubt, the most popular time of the year to get engaged. But what is it about the holiday season that gets us feeling romantic?

It’s certainly the season for celebrations, as well as nice surprises, and if you’re planning (or dreaming of!) a holiday proposal, you have quite a few options. For many, being surrounded by family and friends is a major advantage of a December proposal. Maybe you’d like a quiet, romantic proposal on Christmas Eve, so you can announce your wonderful news over Christmas lunch. Or perhaps on New Years Eve? A huge party and fireworks sounds like a recipe for a proposal to remember!

During the holidays, it’s definitely easier to set the perfect scene. We recently saw a proposal on the ice rink at Rockefeller Centre in New York City – he had arranged to have the ice rink cleared, then got down on one knee underneath the giant Christmas tree. She said yes and the crowd cheered! But a roaring fire, some festive tinsel and maybe even some snow can make a proposal at home truly special too.

Perhaps Christmas holds special memories for you as a couple? You might have met over the holidays, or maybe it reminds you of a wonderful festive season spent with your families, or even a holiday.

We’ve even heard a few stories of boyfriends convincing everyone that they planned to propose on Valentine’s Day… only to pop the question as a total surprise over Christmas.

Are you hoping for that special little box in your stocking this year? Are you planning on surprising your other half on Christmas Day? Or would you prefer to pack away the jingle bells before you start thinking about those wedding bells? Do let us know!
